Apple Inc (NASDAQ AAPL) will donate 10 million Yuan or around $1.6 million to China’s relief operations in Yunnan province, which was stricken by an earthquake that killed more than 600 people earlier this week. This is the second charitable contribution of Apple to the victims of earthquakes in China.
The donation of Apple Inc (NASDAQ AAPL) for the earthquake victims in the country was reported by state-owned broadcaster, China Radio International. The report indicated that the Cupertino-based iPhone and iPad maker change the homepage of its Chinese website expressing words of condolences to the families of those who lost their lives from the catastrophe.
Apple Inc (NASDAQ AAPL) also expressed concerns for the people working in the relief efforts in the province day and night. According to the Chinese broadcaster, Zhaotong city was hit with a 6.5 magnitude earthquake, which is the most powerful that happened in Yunnan province over the past fourteen years.

Last year, Apple Inc (NASDAQ AAPL) donated 50 million Yuan or $8 million for the rescue and recovery operations in Sichuan, after the province was devastated by an earthquake the killed almost 200 and injured more than 10,000 people.
Apple Inc (NASDAQ AAPL) activated its iTunes donation system to allow users to give charitable contributions to organizations such as Red Cross. It is unclear whether the company would activate the iTunes Donation system as a follow to its contribution to the earthquake victims in Yunnan province.
Apple Inc (NASDAQ AAPL) activated the system last year for victims of Typhoon Haiyan, which killed more than 6,000 people and left hundreds of thousands of families homeless on November last year. The company also opened the system to accept donations for those affected by Hurricane Sandy in the United States in 2012 and earthquake Haiti in 2010
