Google Inc (NASDAQ GOOG), the megalith technology-media-robotics-car company, is launching an ad-free YouTube music streaming service. Google’s long-rumored “YouTube Music Key” streaming service will offer offline listing including over 20 million songs. This new service follows Songza acquisition and arm twisting of independent record labels.
Compared to competition from firms such as Spotify and Pandora Media Inc (NYSE P), Google’s new service will offer content and functionality currently unavailable, according to a press report that is based on leaked information. Google’s music key service will be available through a web browser as well as smartphones, tablets and Google’s Chromecast streaming media stick, according to a report.
The service will include unique content such as concert footage, cover songs and remixes. In similar fashion to Spotify and Pandora, however, Google’s music service will make recommendations and filter the music selection, using technology acquired in the firm’s recent Songza acquisition.
Google Inc (NASDAQ GOOG) News: Music Key Service
While Google is selecting the filtered approach to media recommendation, services such as SoundCloud.com are becoming increasingly popular with millenials who can be skeptical of filtered or information or music. The SoundCloud application allows users to rate music and write reviews, much like Yelp.com does for restaurants, in a more open, democratic form of music recommendation.
Google’s acquisition of Songza is also anticipated to spark competition in the music streaming space. The key to the deal was exposing Songza’s technology with Google’s marketing reach. While Google’s music key might be ad-free, it might cost the consumer $9.99 per month, according to the leaked report. The real deal, however, could come out of artist’s pockets.

Google Inc Financial News (NASDAQ GOOG)
This past June it was reported that Google was using strong arm tactics with independent record labels, according to press reports. Recording labels who didn’t sign up for Google’s new service would be blocked from YouTube and, apparently, this new streaming service. After YouTube Music Key is launched, Google will rebrand Google Play Music All Access, calling it Google Play Music Key instead, according to the report.
